Objective:

This programme equips learners with intermediate first aid knowledge and practical techniques to provide enhanced emergency medical care. Intermediate First Aid Responders handle more complex medical emergencies, ensuring scene safety, performing critical interventions, and supporting professional emergency medical personnel.

Participants will learn to operate within an expanded scope of practice, utilizing a wider range of first aid techniques and equipment, while adhering to legal and regulatory requirements, response times, and reducing the severity of injuries in the workplace.

Outcomes:

Recipients of this qualification will be able to:

    • Conduct detailed patient assessments and manage incident scene safety.
    • Apply intermediate first aid techniques for trauma and medical emergencies.
    • Perform CPR & AED use on adults, children, and infants.
    • Manage shock, fractures, burns, wounds, and environmental emergencies.
    • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies, including heart attacks, strokes, poisoning, and diabetic emergencies.
    • Effectively hand over patients to emergency medical personnel with proper documentation and verbal reporting.
    • Conduct post-incident clean-up and follow proper infection control procedures.

Module 4: Recognise emergencies, injuries, and illnesses, and treat appropriately using intermediate emergency first aid techniques.
